My role as a therapist is to be an agent for exploration, healing, and personal growth. Of course, any progress we make together can only occur in the context of a working relationship between you and me. To that end, I promise to prioritize honesty, compassion, and your unique needs in our work together.

Ideologically, I don’t limit myself to one philosophy or worldview. I borrow wisdom wherever I can find it, whether that’s from literature, spirituality, or my professional training as a clinical counselor. Similarly, the clients I treat are from all walks of life, and no single therapeutic style can serve all of their unique needs. For this reason, I take an eclectic approach in my practice and will tailor our therapy to meet your individual goals.

Outside of my counseling practice, I consider myself a cinephile, am an avid reader and enjoy gardening. Admittedly, my wife and I have adopted far too many stray cats, but neither of us have the heart to stop bringing them into our home. As best I can, I lead my life with authenticity, integrity, and compassion.

If you’re reading this, then you have the courage to ask for the help you need. Whether you’re struggling with new challenges, battling old demons, or just looking for a safe space to share your feelings, I would be honored to serve as your guide and provide the support you need. Please feel free to text, call, or email me directly to schedule a free phone consult. Contact me at ‭(530) 219-9293‬ .

When we suffer from trauma, childhood hurts, or long-term stress, we can become disconnected from ourselves, leading to harmful behavior patterns and preventing ourselves from living our lives fully. You can do the inner work in a warm, non-judgmental environment where I provide a warm, non-judgmental space. I am dedicated to helping you discover your internal guidance, build on your strengths, and develop resilience.

My interest in marriage and family therapy stems from my belief that change can be achieved through meaningful interpersonal relationships – by breaking generational trauma cycles and connecting and communicating in new ways. In addition, I believe that one of the most important relationships you can have is your own. The therapeutic process can provide you with a mirror through which you can reflect on the values, beliefs, and experiences that have led you to this point – and whether they are still serving your well-being. As a therapist, I work to support people in identifying and achieving their unique goals, individually and as a group.

After graduating from Alliant University’s School of Professional Psychology in 2022, I have gained experience in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, internal family systems, and somatic approaches. In order to find the best fit for each client as an individual, I combine mind-body modalities with evidence-based practices to treat adjustment issues, trauma, and chronic stress.

As part of my client-centered approach, I customize therapy according to the needs of each client, and work with community providers in order to provide clients with a well-rounded support system. I am a registered Associate of the California Board of Behavioral Sciences #138594.

My goal is to guide you in connecting to your emotions, help you understand your thought processes, and find effective ways to manage your feelings and/or behaviors. It’s natural to feel overwhelmed when trying to navigate through confusion or chaos, but remember that the answers you need are already within you. Accessing your inner strength is not only achievable, but it has the potential to transform.

My life philosophy is simple. I approach life with dedication, integrity and a sense of humor. The latter always comes in handy. A native Californian, I’ve been lucky enough to three different countries and have learned that no matter the land or language, people crave love and union. People are waiting to tell their story, be heard and accepted.

In 1993, I left the States to study abroad. After graduating from University of Maryland’s European Division, I remained in Italy for several years and returned Stateside to Davis where, aside from being a mother to four wonderful, little human beings, I began, grew and ultimately sold two successful businesses before co-founding Life Compass.

Currently, I reside in and am licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California. Those who have ultimately decided to work with me, know me to be a good listener, a sage advisor, a creative problem solver and hold the ability to motivate.

I believe nothing happens by accident and there is a reason you happened upon my website and are reading this now.

I offer fast, result orientated solutions to your problems. My cognitive and empathic approach can help you gain clarity and find direction. As an Integral Coach and Psychodynamic Therapist, I genuinely listen to my clients and give honest feedback. Personal emotions are valid, but sometimes based on faulty belief systems. Let me bring to your life a new perspective.

I help my clients identify personal and professional goals, then develop realistic, practical strategies and action plans. I teach with specific insights and skills to empower the client toward their intent. No stride is too short! I encourage my clients to celebrate the achievement of all milestones.

Whatever stage of the path you find yourself at today, I can serve as a guide toward making meaningful choices that simplify and enrich your life.

You are reading this now because you have chosen to step bravely towards a new path… I can guide you towards this goal.

My name is Kenya McQueen, and I make it my mission to assist individuals and couples in navigating complex emotional, stress, and depression terrain. Incorporating nature-based practices into my holistic approach, I aim to create a safe, nurturing space in which young adults, teenagers, and couples can find balance, peace, and clarity.

It is not uncommon to feel overwhelmed by anxiety, stress, or the constant churn of overthinking. As a recent graduate, I can personally attest to the impact these experiences can have. My goal is to guide you on a journey to connect with your emotions, understand your thought processes, and find effective ways to process and manage these feelings. I believe the path to healing and self-discovery lies in the ability to ground oneself in the present moment and to practice acceptance and commitment to growth.

I utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a proven approach to empowering individuals to accept their thoughts and emotions while committing to values-driven actions. In our work together, I assist you in developing mindfulness skills, gaining clarity about your values, and finding the courage to make meaningful changes through this therapeutic framework.

If it makes sense, our sessions can include nature-based practices as well. If chosen as an option, we’ll explore ways to harness the natural world’s serenity to promote relaxation and holistic healing, whether it’s a mindful walk in a nearby park, ecotherapy, or simply discussing the healing powers of nature. Life is a journey, and sometimes we all need a little help finding our balance, relaxing, and rediscovering our true selves.

If you’re ready to take the first step towards a more peaceful and fulfilling life, I invite you to reach out. Together, we can embark on a therapeutic journey that leads to greater self-awareness, emotional resilience, and a deeper connection with yourself and your loved ones.

A safe, empathetic and validating space is essential for healing and self-leadership. Using a client centered approach, I create that space with my clients, to foster a sense of compassionate curiosity and self-awareness. This allows clients to move towards a more authentic way of being and living.

I draw from various modalities depending on client needs. I find experiential techniques especially useful to identify and locate emotions that are at work in your mind and body in the here and now. We can work across the developmental and mind-body spectrum of experience, from understanding our own nervous system and stress response to what we do with our emotions. What are the feedback loops that put more pressure on us and create more stress? When we find that patterns that were adaptive at one time are not as useful any more, we can move toward change for healthier ways of being and relating.

My previous graduate experience (Phd in Human Development) allows me to bring developmentally informed practice into my work with children, adolescents and the family system. I believe in neuro-diversity and strengths based counseling for children and use modalities that help them express themselves through play. I am also a parent (of three) which brings humility and non-judgment into my work with families.
